Charitable Giving

Staying true to its roots of giving back to the community, the Senior Bowl distributed $50,000 to eleven different area organizations in 2009.  Included in this amount was the previously announced donation of $10,000 to the Boys & Girls Club of South Alabama and the Child Advocacy Center as a direct result of the RBC Bank Senior Bowl Charity Open.

“We are very pleased to be able to donate $50,000 to eleven different charitable agencies, especially during these tough economic times,” Senior Bowl President and CEO Steve Hale said.  “It is very important to us to be able to give back to the community and I’m happy to say that a good portion of this money will directly impact youth and the arts along the Gulf Coast.”

In addition to the Boys & Girls Club of South Alabama ($5,000) and the Child Advocacy Center ($5,000), the other charities receiving checks are the Boy Scouts of America ($5,000), Fellowship of Christian Athletes ($5,000), Mobile Association for the Blind ($5,000), Drug Education Council ($5,000), Mobile Association for Retarded Citizens ($5,000), Mobile Ballet ($3,000), Mobile Opera ($3,000), Mobile Symphony ($4,000) and the Special Olympics ($5,000).

Since its inception in 1951 the Mobile Arts and Sports Association, which owns the Senior Bowl, has donated more than $7.7 million to various charities along the Gulf Coast through ancillary events such as the Senior Bowl game, Charity Run and the RBC Bank Senior Bowl Charity Open.
