RAISING THEIR STOCK (and SALARY)
AT THE SENIOR BOWL
The number we left out at the top: $36,709,042* estimated salary for top draft pick Eric Fisher over four years *(FORBES)
Fisher was projected as a mid-to-late first round pick before he came to the Senior Bowl in January. After dominating in Mobile, and performing well at the Combine, the Central Michigan OT jumped all the way up to the No.1 pick in the draft.
Based off last year’s salaries, Fisher’s climb will put at LEAST an additional $13-14M in his pocket (not counting signing money) assuming a jump from the middle of the first round (No. 16 pick) to the top spot.
Oklahoma OT Lane Johnson was projected as a late first-round pick after the 2012 regular season. After blowing up at the Senior Bowl and NFL Combine, he climbed up to No. 4 in the draft.
Based off last year’s salaries, if he had been chosen 29th in the first round, he would have made around $6M over four years, considerably less than the estimated four-year deal he will sign as the fourth pick, in the neighborhood of $19-20M.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
ABOUT THE SENIOR BOWL
NICK KASA/RAIDERS 6th ROUND PICK / ON HIS SENIOR BOWL EXPERIENCE, WORKING WITH RAIDERS STAFF
“It was pretty awesome just to see a little bit of how the NFL might work out, and just the schemes and planning that they can do there. It definitely helps out I think that I got the coaching there and now I get to go play for the same coaches, which is amazing to me. I love them all and can’t wait to put in a bunch of work with them and get better.”
LIONS GENERAL MANAGER MARTIN MAYHEW / ON DRAFTING ZIGGY ANSAH 5th OVERALL
“I think if we hadn’t gone through the Senior Bowl, if we hadn’t worked with the kid, I might have been a little more concerned about it. But having been there, having worked with him, our coaches felt very comfortable with it, and I felt comfortable with it.”
ESPN DRAFT ANALYST MEL KIPER, JR. / ON ERIC FISHER GOING NO. 1 IN DRAFT
"Eric Fisher went to the Senior Bowl and got an eagle, while (Luke) Joeckel (JR/Texas A&M) was in the clubhouse."
NFL NETWORK ANALYST DANIEL JEREMIAH / ON SENIOR BOWL'S IMPACT ON DRAFT
"I can't recall a draft where an all-star game helped more prospects than the Senior Bowl did this year."
