MOBILE, Ala. (Jan. 16) - Reese's Senior Bowl standout from 2016, Kareem Hunt, was named NFL Rookie of the Year in voting by the Profession Football Writers of America. Hunt also shared the Offensive Rookie of the Year award with New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara.
He was one of nine players from last year's Reese's Senior Bowl that was named to the FWAA's All-Rookie First Team (below).
Hunt finished his rookie campaign as the leading rusher in the NFL -- the first rookie non-first round draft pick to do so in the common draft era. The third round pick (No. 98 overall) out of Toledo, rushed 272 times for 1,327 yards and eight touchdowns in the regular season. He was third in the NFL in scrimmage yards with 1,782 yards (111.4 yards per game). He also caught 53 passes for 455 yards and three TDs.
Hunt set a NFL rookie record with 100 or more scrimmage yards in seven consecutive games to begin his career.
Hunt was the Most Outstanding Player on the North team in the 2016 Reese's Senior Bowl, running for 118 yards in the game.
He and Kamara had the same number of votes for the Offensive Rookie of the Year award -- the first tie since 1988.
The NFL’s top defensive rookie was New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore, who recorded five interceptions and scored a touchdown while making 13 starts.
