WK 1: The Selection Process

This week in the 'Philm' Room, we look at interior offensive lineman. We are breaking down a few plays involving Florida State center Bryan Stork, who we featured in our prospect profiles a couple weeks ago.

In the video above we take a look at what NFL evaluators are looking for when they examine the tape of Stork, in the Seminoles' 2012 meeting against Florida.

Outside of height, weight and speed, scouts look for three things when it comes to the center postion:

1. FOOTBALL INSTINCT (FBI): Can he identify the defense, what direction the offensive line should go after counting the number of defenders to the left and right of the center?

2. ATHLETIC ABILITY: Can he snap the ball and move to his left and right? Does he have the foot agility that is necessary to play in the NFL?

3. ABILITY TO ANCHOR THE POCKET: Meaning, can he set the base of the pocket so that the quarterback has a place to step up once he throws the ball?

The bottomline: every center in the NFL has to be smart, tough, athletic and needs tremendous strength.
